Fresh renderings: How Ladybird at Star Metals will look, function

New renderings have emerged that paint a clearer picture of how a popular eastside restaurant and watering hole plans to transform blocks in postindustrial West Midtown.

Designs by Royal Byckovas Architecture and Design unveiled by developer The Allen Morris Company depict Ladybird at Star Metals as a leafy, largely open-air, adaptive-reuse complex tucked just east of Howell Mill Road in the Marietta Street Artery neighborhood.

Ladybird is expected to consume a full 1-acre parcel for several years within today’s larger, 3.3-acre Star Metals District, bucking the trend of recent food-and-beverage closures in the broader West Midtown area.

The restaurant will operate across the street from the front doorstep of the new Stella at Star Metals tower, which is expected to welcome its first residents next month and fully wrap construction this summer.

No timeline for Ladybird’s construction or opening has been specified, but Allen Morris officials say it will anchor the district’s next phase of growth.

Company reps recently told Urbanize Atlanta the Ladybird site is considered Star Metals District Phase 6, which has been granted a one-of-a-kind height variance by the city for eventual high-rise redevelopment. When that happens, Ladybird will relocate into what’s called Star Metals Phase 4, a facet that’s currently in design.

Leases for both Ladybird spaces were signed at the same time, according to officials.

Allen Morris reps recently said the district’s 270,000-square-foot office component is now 91 percent leased.
