Atlanta Civic Center Showing Signs of Life
The Atlanta Civic Center was once a magnet for culture. Hosting Broadway plays and various concerts, the location was a prominent part of the town’s urban core. But time was not kind to the building and surrounding environs, and it has been shuttered and basically left alone for ten years.
The Atlanta Housing Authority acquired the property in 2017 for $31 million and, last year, hired the Civic Center Partners, made up of Republic Properties, The Michaels Organization and Sophy Capital, to develop a master plan. The group is soon expecting to present the first phase of the project. Atlanta Civic Center is now poised for a nearly $600 million urban revival, and the Civic Center to remain in place.
The entire project will include 1.8 million square feet of retail, affordable housing, outdoor green space and a civic square, according to Atlanta Housing.
