Portman Proposing Big Changes to Amsterdam Walk

Portman Holdings is exploring options to redevelop Amsterdam Walk. Their plan centers around razing the site’s existing shopping center, consisting mainly of adapted warehouses, to make way for new construction and connections to the Beltline. A site plan shows public plazas and five buildings between eight to 16 stories, with the tallest ones concentrated along the BeltLine. The preliminary proposal calls for 900 apartments, 400,000 square feet of offices, 90,000 square feet of retail and 1,435 parking spaces.

A mix of studios and units with one, two and three bedrooms above ground-level retail would be dispersed throughout the nine-acre site. Office space will be available with views of Midtown and Piedmont Park.

At least 20% of apartments would be affordable to households earning 80% of the area median income, while 12.5% of commercial space would be offered at discounted rates for qualifying disadvantaged businesses. Assuming Portman acquires all the needed approvals, the project could be completed by 2028.
